28th Annual National Drug Take Back Day Results
Fairfax County, VA – On Saturday, our district stations partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other Fairfax County agencies to collect nearly 1,000 pounds of expired medications and prescription drugs from our community during the 28th Annual National Drug Take Back Day Initiative.

Individual totals for each station and cumulative amount of expired medications and prescription drugs above.

This bi-annual event addresses critical safety and public health concerns. Unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications left unsecured can pose risks of misuse, accidental poisonings, and potential overdoses.
Missed the event? No problem! Year-round, you can safely dispose of medications at drug take-back boxes located at each of our police district stations. Accepted items include:
- Prescription medications (Schedule II-V controlled and non-controlled substances)
- Prescription ointments
- Over-the-counter medications
- Pet medications
Please note: We are unable to accept needles (sharps), liquids of any kind, illegal drugs, non-prescription ointments and lotions, aerosol cans, or inhalers.
