Robbers target construction workers in Lincoln Park and Logan Square

Construction contractors were targeted by a robbery crew at least twice this week, once in Lincoln Park and again in Logan Square, according to Chicago Police Department reports.

Around 11:15 a.m. on Monday, two masked men exited a black vehicle and confronted a work crew in the 1600 block of North La Salle, outside The Moody Church.

Brandishing a firearm, the men stole wallets from two construction workers and tools from their truck, according to a police report. One robber inadvertently left a cellphone at the scene, a mistake that could help police crack the case.

Witnesses reported that the suspects fled north on La Salle. They were described as Black men wearing black hoodies, driving a black vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet, with its license plate covered.

Another robbery occurred around 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1800 block of North Whipple. Two men dressed in black exited a gray Mercedes and broke into a plumber’s truck, a CPD report stated. When the plumber tried to intervene, the suspects assaulted him.

No arrests have been made in either incident.

Some robbery crews specialize in targeting construction workers. Last September, police issued a community alert about one such group.

Late last month, prosecutors charged a man with robbing a construction crew at gunpoint. CPD previously linked that incident to nine similar robberies at construction sites this year.
