Panicked Paramedic Reports Drunk Driver Hits EMS Vehicle and Leaves Scene across from Christopher Newport University Sunday Morning.

Watch & Listen to the live scanner feeds as the terrifying event took place just across from Christopher Newport University  in Newport News Sunday Morning.

The driver later identified as Bernardo Jesse Reyes was given the opportunity to take some field sobriety tests which he was unable to complete. Arrested on scene and booked into the Newport News City Jail on the charge of DWI:  First Offence with a blood alcohol level of >.20%.

Bernardo Jesse Reyes

Mr Reyes also appears to have just settled a recent case for Public Intoxication out of Arlington, Virginia. Bernardo lists has address as being in Gainesville Virginia. That case was dismissed last week on June 3, 2025.

Arresting Officer Holly C. Enslen

In 2023, Officer Holly Enslen was recognized by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Virginia for her contribution to the reduction of impaired driving. In 2023 Officer Enslen's yearly salary was reported to be $53,139.

As you can see in the video above, it was quite obvious Bernardo Reyes was too impared to be behind the wheel and was unable to complete the basic tests administered by Officer Enslen. The officer remained professional and treated the drunk fairly.

Thortons Towing

It's should also be noted, while it was Fathers Day and Police Ping fully supports dads taking their kids along to work on special occasions which can really help to give the son or daughter a better sense and appreciation of how difficult some jobs are, and driving a tow truck is no exception. It is however a safety and liability issue when working under contract for the city at accident and crime scenes.

In addition, as mentioned in the video, Police Ping was ticketed, fined and extorted for pulling out of a parking lot and failing to come to a complete stop. Thortons AKA "Big Daddy's Towing" committed the same violation right in front of the officer with his kid in the truck. Not only is this a safety issue, it's a bad example to set for your child. Some of the responding officers were also guilty of this very minor traffic infraction and will likely never be cited or help accountable.

Earlier this year at an accident scene, we got to watch another driver from Thortons Towing have a bit of trouble removing a truck from the roadway. https://youtu.be/a-EL7Vlu7P0

Just last week, Police Ping encountered Freedom Towing of Newport News park in a handicap spot as he grabbed a combo meal. WATCH that video here https://policeping.com/tow-truck-driver-parks-in-handicap-parking-and-insults-citizen-calling-him-out
