BREAKING: Body Found at Busy Newport News Shopping Center; Police Withhold Cause of Death
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A grim discovery Thursday morning near the heavily trafficked intersection of Oyster Point Road and Warwick Boulevard prompted a massive police response, shutting down portions of a local commercial parking lot. Authorities have confirmed a body was found at the scene, but officials are remaining notably tight-lipped regarding the circumstances of the death.

The investigation is currently centered in the parking lot of the strip mall housing the local VA ABC store and Chihuahua’s Mexican Grill. A heavy presence from the Newport News Police Department secured the area early Thursday. Yellow crime scene tape cordoned off a significant section of the lot, where investigators erected a white forensics tent adjacent to a parked white sedan, shielding the immediate area from public view.
Despite the highly visible law enforcement footprint, police on the scene refused to provide a cause of death, release the identity of the deceased, or confirm whether foul play is suspected.
