Woman charged with killing 2-month-old son at their Near West Side home

Prosecutors have charged a 25-year-old woman with killing her 2-month-old son at their Near West Side home on Monday.
Lauryn Shakespeare, 25, will appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Friday, according to Chicago police.
More details will be made public during her court hearing, but the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has already said the boy, Loyal Rhodes, died from multiple injuries at Stroger Hospital at 9:14 a.m.
The agency said his death was child abuse and a homicide. Records show the boy was found at home in the 100 block of North Ashland earlier that morning.
