Inside the FCPD’s Real Time Crime Center – Enhancing Safety with Technology

Fairfax County, VA – The Fairfax County Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) is leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance public safety across the National Capital Region. From locating suspects to assisting in safer community interactions, the RTCC plays a vital role in real-time policing every day.

Who We Are

Established in April 2024, the FCPD’s Real Time Crime Center is the first in Northern Virginia. The RTCC is staffed 24/7 and is made up of one Commander, two supervisors, six detectives, and one investigative aide.

The RTCC serves as a central hub for integrating and utilizing multiple data and technology systems, building key partnerships to keep our communities safe.

What We Do

The RTCC uses license plate reader (LPR) data, community-based camera feeds, and advanced analytics to support real-time investigations. Working closely with patrol officers, the RTCC helps identify and locate suspects and victims, and assists in real-time incidents.

Since its inception, RTCC has supported over 6,500 cases across the region. In just the first three months of 2025, the RTCC received over 120 Crime Solvers tips and assisted the Crime Solvers Board with payment of over $5,000 to community members whose information helped close active cases.

The Impact

The Real Time Crime Center is a force multiplier for the department, enhancing our response capabilities and enabling officers on the ground to make better-informed decisions faster. As we continue to embrace data-informed policing, the RTCC stands at the forefront of our mission to enhance safety with technology.
