Former FCPS Teacher Charged for Assaulting Student and Teacher
Mason Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Child Abuse Squad have charged a former Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) teacher on two counts of simple assault.
On March 28, Child Protective Services received a referral that a student was assaulted by a Parklawn Elementary School teacher. Detectives were notified and assumed the investigation.
During the investigation, detectives learned Mary Simons, 63, of Arlington assaulted a student and a teacher during two separate incidents.
Yesterday, Simons turned herself in and was served two summons releasable warrants for Simple Assault. No mugshot is available at this time.
Simons was placed on administrative leave by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) upon notice of the allegation. During the investigation, Simmons retired from her position as a teacher. She was employed with FCPS as a teacher since 2009.
Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure that the victims are receiving appropriate resources and assistance.
