On March 11th, 2025 at approximately 8:15 am, the police department was dispatched to the intersection of Williams Grove Road and South Broad Street for a pedestrian struck. Investigation determined Bryson Von Lumm was operating a 2021 Nissan Altima southbound on South Broad Street. Von Lumm was coming from the high school after dropping family members off, however, Von Lumm himself is not a student of the high school. Von Lumm stopped at the posted stop sign at the intersection of Williams Grove Road. A high school student was crossing Williams Grove Road towards the high school. A westbound vehicle stopped to allow the student to cross. Von Lumm failed to see the pedestrian in the crosswalk and believed the westbound vehicle stopped to let him proceed. Von Lumm proceeded to make a left turn onto Williams Grove Road and struck the pedestrian who was within the crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital for a possible leg injury. A citation will be filed for the traffic violation.

An officer was observing the intersection during student arrival times and left the area about three minutes before the crash occurred.

The police department has been coordinating with the Local Traffic Advisory Committee (LTAC), and the borough, to install push button pedestrian crossing signals at this intersection. On March 4th, Borough Council unanimously approved the purchase of the signals. The signals are awaiting Penn DOT approval for installation.

The police department was assisted on scene by Penn State EMS and the Mechanicsburg Fire Department, as well as school district administrators.
