Mount Vernon Police District- With the assistance of our Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Team, a man has been arrested and charged with Felony Hit and Run in connection with the fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on January 29 in Woodlawn.
Through their investigation, Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives determined that Reginald Brown, 42, of Fairfax, was driving a 2007 black Chevrolet Suburban northbound on Richmond Highway when he struck Erica Tibbs, 33, of Alexandria, and her 5-year-old child, who were crossing Richmond Highway. Brown fled before officers arrived, and Tibbs was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

On April 23, detectives were able to locate and arrest Brown for his involvement in the crash. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Felony Hit and Run and was held on no bond.

Mount Vernon Police District — Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash in Woodlawn.
On January 29 at 8:34 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Richmond Highway and Buckman Road in Woodlawn for two pedestrians who were struck by a vehicle.
Preliminarily, CRU detectives determined Erica Tibbs, 33, of Alexandria, and her 5-year-old child were crossing Richmond Highway from west to east while not in a crosswalk. The driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling northbound on Richmond Highway and struck Tibbs and the child. The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban abandoned the vehicle a short distance away and fled before the police arrived.
Tibbs and the child were transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition. Tibbs was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, and the child remains in stable condition.
The investigation into the crash continues as detectives work to identify the driver of the Chevrolet Suburban.
