Prior to his promotion, Major Mattus served as the Assistant Commander of the Mason District Station and as the Deputy Director of the Northern Virginia Regional Intelligence Center.  He joined the Fairfax County Police Department in 2003, starting as a patrol officer at the Reston District Station.  He was later promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he served in a supervisory role at the Franconia and Mason District Stations.  Additionally, he served as an Investigator within the Internal Affairs Bureau.

Major Mattus has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Buffalo State University.  His notable leadership training includes the Emerging Leaders Institute, FCPD’s Commander College, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s (IACP) Leadership in Police Organizations program.

Jeff Mauro has been promoted to the rank of Major and has been assigned as the Commander of the Mount Vernon District Station.

Major Mauro previously served as the Assistant Commander of both the Mount Vernon and West Springfield District Stations.  His prior supervisory experience included assignments at the Mason District Station, Mount Vernon District Station (on Patrol and the Neighborhood Patrol Unit), Fair Oaks District Station, Major Crimes Bureau, and the Crisis Intervention Team.  He started his career on patrol at the Franconia District Station and he has since served within various units. Major Mauro was one of the founding members of the department’s Drone Unit and a DCJS certified instructor.
