A Dose of Safety: National Drug Take Back Day

Fairfax County, VA – National Drug Take Back Day helps prevent prescription drug misuse, accidental poisoning, and environmental harm by offering a safe way to dispose of unused or expired medications. On Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will host medication drop-off sites across the county.

Why Participate?

  • Reduce Risk at Home:
Old medications can lead to accidental poisoning, misuse, and addiction—especially opioid painkillers.
  • Protect the Environment:
Medications thrown away or flushed can pollute our waterways. Drop-off ensures safe, eco-friendly disposal.
  • Help Prevent Prescription Drug Abuse:
Most misused prescription drugs are obtained from family or friends. Drug Take Back Day is a simple way to keep drugs out of the wrong hands.
