Mount Vernon Police District- Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have charged a Maryland man after an armed robbery at a convenience store in Huntington.
Yesterday, at 11:49 a.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of Fairhaven Ave in Huntington for a robbery call. The complainant reported that a man entered the business with a firearm and began stealing merchandise. A community member was present in the store and attempted to apprehend the man, but the man fled. There were no injuries.
Officers quickly set up a perimeter and began searching for the suspect. Through their canvas of a nearby neighborhood, detectives learned the suspect may have entered an unoccupied home in the 2400 block of Byrd Lane in Huntington. Officers from our Special Operation Division responded and after three hours, Anthony Edwards, 51, of Maryland was located hiding in the attic of the residence.
Through their investigation, detectives linked Edwards to a previous robbery on April 4 at the same store.
